OK, so for a while pirates were on the tips of tongues with the whole pirate versus ninja thing (think tastes great-less filling seesaw back in the good 'ole days ). And then how many of us were surprised when pirates were coming up legitimately in the news multiple times per day (1, 2, 3)?
Here in Sweden we have another pirate, the Pirate Party (4). It's not a costume party where we try to drink tea pointing our hooks ever so slightly towards the sky.
Today are the elections for the European Union positions in Sweden. And there is a lot of support now for the relatively new Pirate Party, and they have been gaining in popularity. Their mission, in one sentence:
The Pirate Party wants to fundamentally reform copyright law, get rid
of the patent system, and ensure that citizens' rights to privacy are
respected. With this agenda, and only this, we are making a bid for
representation in the European and Swedish parliaments. (their site)
Should be interesting to see how the elections turn out.
