Spotlight: Capes coming back into fashion.

A few years back we had the big poncho trend (thanks Martha Stewart) and I am happy to say that as far as I can tell, that fad has departed.  I didn't particularly love this trend, but I could see the convenience. 

Even more recently capelets started showing up at some of my favorite window-shopping spots and though there was something I wasn't quite sure about, I was intrigued by the idea.  Some capelet-inspired pieces even tempted me.

I can say, with some confidence, that this new fashion trend I have been seeing on the streets of Stockholm will not tempt me.

Pirates everywhere.

OK, so for a while pirates were on the tips of tongues with the whole pirate versus ninja thing (think tastes great-less filling seesaw back in the good 'ole days ).  And then how many of us were surprised when pirates were coming up legitimately in the news multiple times per day (1, 2, 3)? 

Here in Sweden we have another pirate, the Pirate Party (4).  It's not a costume party where we try to drink tea pointing our hooks ever so slightly towards the sky. 

Today are the elections for the European Union positions in Sweden.  And there is a lot of support now for the relatively new Pirate Party, and they have been gaining in popularity.  Their mission, in one sentence:

The Pirate Party wants to fundamentally reform copyright law, get rid of the patent system, and ensure that citizens' rights to privacy are respected. With this agenda, and only this, we are making a bid for representation in the European and Swedish parliaments. (their site)

Should be interesting to see how the elections turn out.
